Holy Mother of I Dunno What. Here's a question for you: If God is loving and kind and all that good stuff, why does S/He let this kind of shit happen? Why weren't all those crazy people in that crazy cult taken out by searing bolts of lightning?
Well, maybe the baby really was a demon. I guess that's entirely possible.

Because God doesn't let things happen. Things just happen. The fact that a benevolent diety refuses to intervene on these people's behalf (and raise a child they've murdered) perhaps says more about them than God's status of benevolence.
A "loving God" doesn't mean that events won't happen naturally--only the theologically illiterate can assume God must--by the fact of being "loving"--keep believers free of moral responsibilities or be comforted by not having to confront a universe that punishes stupidity so thoroughly and irrevocably.
Indeed, this goes back to that just as stupid absurdity of the family that prayed for a cure for diabetes and allowed their child to die rather than drive to a hospital. God helps them who help themselves.
What really gets me is that the woman stopped going to church because she was disgusted by the molestation of little boys...but then killed her own. WTF???
