I Deem It a Success!

Last night, Jeff of Blue Collar Scientist hosted what turned out to be a surprisingly successful meet-up at Barnes & Nobel. Clock was the left....(watch me butcher everyone's names):

People Sitting (clockwise from left to right): Me (Zach), Cici, Marcus, Drew, Nelson, John, Erik, and Scott Elyard (of Coherent Lighthouse).
People Standing (left to right): ...Jeff?, Greg, Scott, Amber, Jeff (the BCS), and Karen.
I'm honestly surprised that I only forgot one person's name.
I didn't talk about pterosaur wings, Scott didn't really discuss the art show, and Jeff isn't made of cheese, but I did learn that Jeff consulted for an upcoming episode of Mythbusters, and I gave Karen the inside scoop on acquiring a Wii. Otherwise the meeting was more of a meet 'n' greet than a formal science meeting, which is fine! It was surreal to hear Cici ask if I was the guy who worked at Nintendo World Report...I have readers! And according to Jeff, I have lots of readers.
As far as I know, the next meeting is in two weeks, at an undetermined location. Now between you, me, and anyone else reading this blog, I think a conference would be fun sometime down the road. If our little meetings garner enough interest over the coming months, I believe such a task could be well within our collective powers. An interdisciplinary scientific conference? Awesomeness!
At any rate, the meeting last night was great fun, and I met a lot of awesome people. Also, Scott and I are dropping the aeteosaur from the art show (sorry, Darren) and we're replacing it with Scleromochlus, because, frankly, that basal ornithodir is far easier to draw than a big armored pig-crocodile. Perhaps when the show migrates from the Vegabond Blues in Palmer to downtown Anchorage (hopefully), I'll prepare Desmatosuchus in the transit.

  1. YAY! I'm so jealous...you'd think that you'd be more isolated in Alaska...but no...being directly attached to the rest of the U.S. does no good when you live in Vermont. At least there's SVP...

  2. Awesome, Zach! You captured the event perfectly. And that's a pretty good picture. I need to hunt that barista down and tip her....

Can you e-mail me a copy of that pic in a nice high res?

  6. OOPS!, just looked at a larger picture and there's a fourteenth person in there. Dangnabit, curse potential is eliminated! I was kinda lookin forward to, say, warts, or an extra limb. (I could use that extra limb...for cooking, of course.)

See, this is why I'm usually a lurker.

  7. I must admit, while I didn't understand everything that was said, and while I was distracted with the intracacies of WoW and just how awesome it is and how I want to get it once I get a computer, I enjoyed myself and found it both informative and interesting. If the next one is at a bar, I will BE THERE.
